EDWARDSBURG -- Chief Kenneth Wray reports that Officer Sailor of the Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Department was involved in a pursuit on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 9:28 a.m.
Officer Sailor observed a gray Olds stop and then turn onto Elkhart Road.
He noticed that the license plate was loose on the vehicle. Upon making an inquiry into the plate it was found it did not belong to that vehicle.
The officer then tried to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, later identified as a Dennis Bayle, 33, of Edwardsburg, failed to stop and accelerated. The pursuit continued down M-62 into St. Joseph County, Ind., on 23, where they then turned east onto Adams Road. The vehicle then turned into a field and continued behind some homes along Birch Road southbound. Bayle lost control of his vehicle behind one of the homes and rolled his vehicle in a cornfield about two thirds of a mile south of Adams Road on Birch Road. He was trapped in his vehicle. St. Joseph County, Ind., Sheriff's Department arrived at the scene and a rescue unit was called by them along with an ambulance.
The rescue unit removed Bayle from the vehicle. He was transported to the St. Joseph Medical Center, where his condition was not known.
