Buchanan captures Lakeland title

NEW TROY - The Buchanan Bucks layed claim to another Lakeland Conference championship Saturday afternoon as it blanked Edwardsburg, 3-0, in the league tournament championship match.
Actually, Buchanan had nothing to lose as it had enough points to win the conference championship prior to the match.
As a result, Edwardsburg rested most of its starters for today's Division 3 District Tournament match against state runner-up South Haven.
Buchanan grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Chris Cecco at the 27:16 mark of the first half and by Kale Burks with 12:02 remaining in the opening period.
Jon Peel scored with 32:35 remaining in the match.
Buchanan outshot the Eddies, 24-9 with Bucks goalkeeper Josh Wahlstrom being credited with three saves and Edwardsburg keeper Josh Montgomery being credited with eight saves.
The Bucks are 13-5-3 heading into today's Division 3 District Tournament match up against Berrien Springs. Edwardsburg is 12-4-1 on the season.
