Michigan senator suggests ‘A Month for America’

WASHINGTON -- America's urgent needs for veterans' health care, repair of its transportation infrastructure and school construction shouldn't take a back seat to similar needs in Iraq, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., said Thursday.
She unveiled a proposal to funnel $5.03 billion earmarked for Iraqi reconstruction to priority needs in the United States that will directly benefit American taxpayers.
Stabenow will offer her proposal on the floor of the U.S. Senate next week as an amendment to an $87 billion supplemental appropriations bill that includes $20 billion for reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
