CASSOPOLIS -- Cindy Sue Hackenberg, 44, of Marcellus Highway, Three Rivers, became extremely upset when her relationship with James Steel ended.
She was "enraged after the break-up and out of control," said Cass County Circuit Court Michael E. Judge Friday.
On May 22, she went to Steel's home in Marcellus, vandalizing his property and then at the corner of Pioneer and Stevens streets, laid down in the middle of the street.
Steel had called police, but she had already left his residence.They were called again by a Marcellus school bus driver and told she was in the middle of the road.
The Cass County officers were kicked as Hackenberg became combative and even tried to kick out the squad car window. A back injury and a shin injury were received by two officers.
Dodge said these actions went not normal for this five-year Navy veteran, who had no prior record. She was sentenced to one year probation and her 60 days in the Cass County Jail were suspended.
She is to pay $60 DNA, $60 to the Crime Victims' Fund, $350 attorney fees, $450 court costs, and a $300 fine. When the amount is determined from the officer's injuries, she will also be responsible for restitution.
He was sentenced to 240 days in the Cass County Jail, with credit for 97 days. he is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims' Fund and $350 attorney costs.
He was on parole at the time of this March 2, 2003 arrest for a felony which resulted in a death. He was sentenced to the Cass County Jail for nine months and also 93 days, to run concurrently.
