Niles welcomes 32 new teachers

Niles Community Schools is welcoming 32 new teachers and counselors to the district this year. This begins a series of profiles introducing new teachers to the Niles community.

How many years of teaching experience do you have?
I graduated from Michigan State University in 2002 and just completed my year of student teaching in April
What will you teach at Niles Community Schools?
Special Education Math and History.
Why did you choose to teach in this school district?
It is well known in the county for having an excellent special education department.
Do you have family in the area?
Yes, my family lives in St. Joseph.
What are you looking forward to as a new teacher in the school district?
I am looking forward to beginning my teaching career with the students and staff at Niles High School. The staff whom I have met so far have been very supportive.
What did you know about the area before you came here?
Being from St. Joseph I am familiar with Niles as I travelled there for various events.
What do you know about the school district?
I know that the school district's career focused curriculum is one of the strongest in the state. It's students rank above average in math, reading and science. The schools in Niles have been recognized for their success locally and nationally.
How did you become interested in teaching?
I have always enjoyed working with children and young people. Ever since I was a young girl I had dreams of becoming a teacher.
What is your family background?
I have two older married brothers
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy playing sports, running, travelling, spending time at the beach.
