Michael Tanke, a 13-year-old from Niles, recently made a name for himself at the Olympic Development Program Regiona II Soccer Camp in Rockford, Ill.
Tanke, who will be a freshman at Niles High School this month, was chosen from among the approximately 500 boys from 15 states at the camp to be a member of the Regional Pool team. That means the camp coaches considered him one of the best 36 campers.
Even being chosen to go to the Regional Camp is an honor. Tanke first had to make the Indiana state Olympic Development Program team.
Tanke has been a member of the Elkhart, Ind., Flames Club soccer team for four years as well as playing on Optimist travel teams. His team recently won the Jr. Irish Memorial Day Soccer Tournament.
