Teen stable after accidental shooting

CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating an accidental shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of Leet Road in Howard Township at 2:03 p.m. Saturday, July 26.
The incident occurred when a 17-year-old Niles resident accidentally fired a loaded .45-caliber pistol. He struck Adam Peterson, 17, of Niles.
Peterson was transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles by SMCAS, the Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service.
He remained in stable condition Sunday.
The sheriff said the name of the 17-year-old who shot Peterson was being withheld until the case is reviewed by Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz's office. The case remains under investigation.
