CASSOPOLIS -- Incumbent Gary Solloway, 323 N. O'Keefe St. will return to the Cassopolis Public Schools Board of Education following Monday's election and will be joined by a new board member, Charlene Lee, 217 W. State St.
Solloway's term is for four years. He received 305 votes to the 280 received by Denise Bufkin, 305 Lakeshore Dr.
Lee has three children in the Cassopolis school system, Stefon Luckey in the fifth grade; Kia Luckey, seventh grade and Kyra Kuckey, ninth grade.
She is deeply concerned about the drop out rate in high school and also how school discipline problems are handled. She wants to see the children "gain positive life skills -- to focus on getting good grades, to learn how to be good citizens, and to grow into being positive and productive adults."
Lee ran against Susan Horstmann, 62056 Carlton Dr., who received 120 votes and Dino Signore, 22362 Maple St., who had 187, compared to Lee's 268. The term is for three years. Signore had been appointed to serve since the resignation of Lou Ann Bates.
The millage request for .9 mills for 10 years also passed, 341 to 243. The money will be used to make needed repairs on driveways and roofs, said Trustee Bill Loux.
