Eddies set for Comets

EDWARDSBURG -- The Edwardsburg Eddies will face Kalamazoo Christian in the semifinals of the Division 3 Regional Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Constantine.
The Eddies, which won their first district title since 1988, will face a Comets team that is 15-12 entering the regional.
Edwardsburg reached the regional tournament by defeating Constantine, 6-5, on Saturday.
The Eddies (17-15) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on the suicide squeeze to win the district title.
With the bases loaded and one out, Brian Bortz dropped the bunt between home plate and the pitcher's mound. Constantine pitcher Mike McCallie slipped and could not make the play at the plate which allowed Jessie Johnson to score the winning run.
Edwardsburg reached the championship game with a 6-2 victory over Schoolcraft. Constantine advanced to the finals with a 4-2 win over Marcellus.
Nate Peak earned the victory for the Eddies in the title game as he scattered seven hits.
The Eddies also had seven hits, including a pair of doubles from Zac Rooney and a double from Ben Horton. Brian Bortz finished with two hits.
Lakeland Conference champion River Valley (33-4) will take on Watervliet (20-12) in the other semifinal.
