Bobcats buried by Dowagiac

Solid pitching lifted the Dowagiac varsity baseball team to a sweep of host Brandywine Wednesday afternoon.
The Chieftains (9-3) got a seven-hitter from Davey Moran in their 5-2 victory in the opening game and then a one-hitter from Jason McIntyre in their 11-0 win in the nightcap.
The Bobcats (0-5) were outhit by the Chieftains, 12-5, and were unable to keep Dowagiac from scoring late in the contest.
Dowagiac led 1-0 after an inning of play and 3-0 with single runs in the third and fifth innings.
The Bobcats cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the sixth, however, Dowagiac scored twice in the top half of the seventh to open up a 5-1 advantage. Brandywine scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring.
Tim Douglas took the loss for the Bobcats as he allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
Moran went the distance to improve to 2-1 as he gave up seven hits while striking out seven.
Jonathon Bartee and Richie Burling were both 3-for-3 with an RBI. Matthew Carlson and Matt Stewart were both 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, McIntyre improve to 3-1 with a one-hit shut out that included five strikeouts.
Dowagiac scored six runs in the third and five runs in the sixth to account for its runs.
Dowagiac finished with 14 hits. Brandywine committed six errors in the contest.
Carlson led the Chieftains with a 4-for-4 performance which included a double and an RBI.
Eddie Campbell was 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Jeff Cooper was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Burling was also 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Bartee doubled and drove in two runs.
Brandywine's Chris Carpenter suffered the loss as he went the distance.
Dowagiac also got a single and an RBI from Chris Singleton and Stewart.
Dowagiac travels to Buchanan for a non-league doubleheader Friday at 12:30 p.m.
Brandywine goes to Centreville today for another non-conference contest.
