The Niles freshmen baseball team split a doubleheader with South Bend St. Joseph's Tuesday afternoon. The young Vikings suffered a 4-0 loss in the first game before winning the nightcap 7-4.
Nick Etzcorn took the loss for Niles in the opening game. Justin Henry and Chris Stratton each singled for the Vikings in that game.
Chris Hammond earned the pitching victory for the Vikings in the second game. Ryan McCormick, Hammond, Peter Brandstatter, Etzcorn and mason Stephenson all singled for Niles.
The Niles freshmen are 2-2 on the season and travel to South Bend Adams today.
