NILES -- A Niles man was sentenced to 90 days in jail for seriously injuring a Niles Township Police officer with his vehicle.
On Jan. 13, Niles Township Officer William Jarve was conducting a traffic stop on South 11th Street in Niles.
Jarve was standing outside his patrol car when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Dale Borders of State Line Road, Niles.
Borders was sentenced in Berrien County Trial Court Monday.
Borders pleaded no contest on March 3 of having driving his car into Jarve and his patrol car. He admitted to officers that he had consumed alcohol and taken anti-anxiety medication.
Berrien County Trial Court Judge Dennis Wiley also sentenced Borders to three years probation, 100 hours of community service and fines and court costs which will total more than $2,000.
