Brandywine's softball team turned in a stellar performance at Saturday's Penn (Ind.) Invitational, going 2-1 to claim the tournament crown.
Brandywine's record actually tied with Penn and Lafayette Jefferson but the Bobcats won the tiebreaker because they allowed fewer runs than either team.
Brandywine, now 4-1 and ranked No. 4 in Division 3, suffered a 3-1 loss to Lafayette Jefferson to open the day. The Bobcats then upset the host Kingsmen 2-0 in the second game. Finally, Brandywine beat Merrillville 11-1 to end the day.
Nicki McGowen picked up two wins and a loss pitching for Brandywine. She gave up just five hits the entire day and improved her record to 4-1.
Ashley Antus had a good day at the plate for the Bobcats, doubling in two games. Michelle Shoemaker also hit a double against Penn.
Brandywine hosts River Valley for a Lakeland Conference doubleheader today at 4 p.m.
