NILES -- Niles High School senior Greg Hoese has made a commitment to continue his football career at Elmhurst College.
Hoese, a tight end on the Niles varsity football team the last two years, has a 3.0 grade point average and was the team's leading receiver last season with 24 receptions.
Hoese, who also played basketball and is currently a member of the Niles track and field team, was a two-time All-West Division tight end in the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference. The varsity football teams he was a member of compiled a 13-5 two-year record and made the state playoffs two years in a row.
Many will remember Hoese's game-winning reception with 16 seconds left to beat Loy Norrix during the 2001 season. That victory sparked a seven-game winning streak for the Vikings.
Elmhurst College is located in Elmhurst, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. It is an NCAA Division III school and a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Bluejays finished 3-7 overall last year and 1-6 in conference play. Head coach Paul Krohn is in his 10th year at Elmhurst.
