For the fourth consecutive day, wintry weather and poor field conditions have cancelled the start of the South Bend Silver Hawks' 2003 season.
The Silver Hawks and Lansing Lugnuts were scheduled to play a doubleheader Sunday at Oldsmobile Park
The season did begin for the Silver Hawks on Thursday, but after South Bend sent two players to the plate in the first inning, the skies above Lansing opened and that is all the baseball the Silver Hawks have played.
The Silver Hawks are opening the season with a seven-game road trip. They will travel to Fort Wayne to play three games April 7 through April 9 before welcoming the Lansing Lugnuts, West Michigan Whitecaps and Peoria Chiefs for a 10-game homestand.
Fanfest, where fans will meet the 2003 Silver Hawks is Thursday, April 10, at Riverside Terrace in Mishawaka.
Opening night at The Cove is April 11 at 6:30 p.m. against the Lansing Lugnuts.
