Cassopolis jeweler closing

S and R Jewelers will close its doors after eight years of business in downtown Cassopolis.
Through the last eight years, owner Scott Ward provided jewelry retail and wholesale repair work to Cassopolis. But like many businesses across the United States, Ward made the tough decision to close up shop and move forward.
“It’s because of the economy, unfortunately,” Ward said. “The retail end of my business just isn’t clicking like it should be.”
Currently, Ward has the last day of business set at June 16, but the schedule could change depending on a few factors. Specifically, if the store-closing sale isn’t producing or if customers come in needing repairs.
“If sales are down, then I don’t see why I would stay open until then,” Ward said. “But if someone comes in needing repair work or something, then we may stay open longer.”
Though Ward’s jewelry business will be leaving town, Ward and his family won’t. Ward serves as a trustee on the Cassopolis Public Schools Board of Education and will continue to conduct his trade business in the area.
“We’re not leaving the community or anything like that,” Ward said.
