Owens Tech now 13-5 with win over Cuyahoga CC

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Owens Community College women’s volleyball team swept Cuyahoga Community College 25-4, 25-15, 25-20 in the Student Health and Activities Center Wednesday.

With the win, Owens improves to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in OCCAC play.

Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) and Erika Hartings(Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) each had a team-high 10 kills, while Stephanie Kipp(Ida/Monroe, Michigan) had six and Kayla Siefker (Kalida/Ottawa, Ohio) had five.

Jessica Cooper (Brandywine) and Deanna Smith(Riverview/Riverview, Michigan) led the team in assists with 19 and 16, respectively. Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) had team-highs in aces (3) and digs (14), while Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) added 10 digs.

Kipp and Hartings each picked up one solo block, and Mikesell led the team with two assisted blocks, as well.

Owens will travel to Illinois this weekend to face some of the toughest competition in the nation at the Parkland Invitational.

On Friday, the team will take on Rock Valley College, one of the nation’s top NJCAA Division III teams and NJCAA Division II No. 1 Parkland College.

On Saturday, the team will play NJCAA Division II No. 7 Kirkwood Community College and NJCAA Division II No. 9 Iowa Central Community College.
