Dear fellow citizens:

This election is about who we are as a people.
Are we going to be an inclusive state, protecting all citizens? Or an exclusionary one based on segregation by class, race, gender, religion or orientation?
Our government is based on a system of compromise, to achieve the greatest benefit for the most citizens.
No government will work without it. To move forward, our representatives must learn the art of compromise. The Constitution begins with “We the People.”  It does not begin with “I the Individual.”  It continues “to form a more perfect Union.” I believe in that Union. The people joined together for a common purpose and general welfare.
We are a community with different perspectives but similar goals.
To work properly all citizens must play by the same rules, with shared sacrifice and fairness, that will give every citizen a chance to succeed.
Our representatives must give us these opportunities through fair, common-sense, legislation.
We must be allowed to practice our free will within the limits of decency, and moral and ethical obligation. So, too, must our representatives legislate to that end.
I applaud everyone taking an active role in this political process as a voter, volunteer or candidate.
Please vote on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
A reminder that you can vote a straight party ticket, and also vote for individual candidates of your choice.
And we vote a secret ballot, one of the few times we can exercise true freedom, just you voting your conscience.
