Crash kills Jones man

Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his deputies handled a fatal crash which killed a Jones man at 1:44 p.m. June 26 at the intersection of Pokagon Highway and Dailey Road in LaGrange Township.

A 15 year-old female of Eau Claire was traveling northbound on Dailey Road when she failed to yield at the stop sign.

She proceeded into the intersection, striking a vehicle traveling eastbound driven by Adam Koppy, 40, of Jones.

The impact caused the Koppy vehicle to travel into the oncoming traffic lane, where he was then struck by Brenda Smith, 50, of Bridgman.

Mr. Koppy was transported to Dowagiac’s Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Smith was also taken to Borgess-Lee for treatment of her injuries.

The driver was an unlicensed driver, and the passenger in her car, a Cassopolis native, did not sustain any injuries.

Cass Fire and Pride Care Ambulance assisted deputies.

Seat belts were worn by all parties in the crash, which remains under investigation.
