Two arrested in Cassopolis meth bust

Two people were arrested after county drug enforcement officers uncovered a methamphetamine operation in Cassopolis Friday, according to a release from the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team.

On that day, detectives served a search warrant on an address in the 100 block of North O’Keefe Street in the Village of Cassopolis on suspicion that the manufacture of methamphetamine was going on there. Upon searching the residence, four one pot methamphetamine labs were located along with methamphetamine, methamphetamine paraphernalia, multiple components used in the manufacture of methamphetamine along with some marijuana.

A rifle was also located inside the residence. The Michigan Department of Human Services was also contacted since there was a young child present in the residence.  Two suspects, a 34-year-old female and a 31–year-old male, were arrested on charges of manufacture of methamphetamine, operating/maintaining a methamphetamine lab, operating/maintaining a lab producing hazardous waste, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and felony firearm.

The female was also charged with maintaining a drug house and the male was charged with felon in possession of a firearm in addition to the other charges.

Their names are being with held pending arraignment.  The investigation is still on going at this time.

The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team was assisted on scene by the Cass County Warrant Service Team, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the Village of Cassopolis Police Department, the Dowagiac Police Department and the Michigan Department of Human Services.
