A Niles woman was taken to the hospital after a one-car accident Sunday in Volinia Township.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies responded to a crash at approximately 4:08 p.m. on Marcellus Highway near Lawrence Road in Volinia Township.

Ralph Platz, 59, of Niles, and his passenger, Cheryl Platz, 60, were traveling east on Marcellus Highway when Ralph lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Cheryl was extricated from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to a hospital in Paw Paw for treatment.

The sheriff’s department reported that both parties were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
