A Niles man driving in wintry conditions lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree Monday in Milton Township.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that 34-year-old Ronnie West was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred on US-12 near Gumwood Road in Niles.

The driver told police he was traveling on US-12 when he was approached by a plow truck that was over the centerline. The driver moved to the edge of the roadway and lost control in the slush, causing him to leave the roadway, the sheriff’s department reports.

West was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is not a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
