Brandywine edges White Pigeon for title

WHITE PIGEON — Despite 27 points from White Pigeon’s Dylan Sandy, the Brandywine boys basketball team won its second straight Sturgis Bank & Trust Holiday Classic Wednesday.

The Bobcats (5-0) outscored the host Chiefs 15-9 in the final quarter to pull out a 51-46 victory in the title game.

Brandywine advanced to the finals with a 64-45 win over Gobles Tuesday.

Brandywine led 17-12 after one quarter, but was outscored 13-5 in the second quarter by White Pigeon, which took a 25-22 advantage into halftime.

The Bobcats cut the Chiefs’ advantage to 37-36 heading into the final eight minutes of action.

Austin Knapp scored 11 points to lead Brandywine, which also got 10 points form Chandler Plew.

Knapp and Marquise Davis were both named to the all-tournament team.
