Dowagiac’s sole source for smoke-free vapor pens has relocated to the city’s busiest throughway.

Earlier this month, Electric Mist Vape Shop moved from its location next to Farm Bureau Insurance downtown to the former Casey Tool & Die building, located outside city limits next to Honor Credit Union on M-51. The new location offers increased visibility to people entering the city as well a larger amount of space for the business to eventually move into, as the owners look into expanding their offerings of vape and tobacco-related products and accessories in the months ahead.

Prior to opening downtown in spring, the proprietors had initially considered opening inside the vacant highway storefront, said Irene Krebs, who helps run the business with her husband Peter and son Eric, the owners. Last month, the family had secured a lease agreement with the owner, allowing them to transfer their business to the new location.

Relocating to M-51 offers several advantages over the business’ previous location, including increased visibility to people traveling to town from Niles, Krebs said.

“Most of our traffic before were walk-ins, so if the weather was bad so was business,” Krebs said.

The business currently occupies only about a quarter of the new building, leaving owners with plenty of room to expand as they move more into smoking accessories and incenses, Krebs said. They are also planning on continuing to build on the business’ existing line of vapor-pens and accessories.

“Our prices are still unbelievably lower than anyone in Michiana or southwest Michigan,” Krebs said. “People are telling us that all the time, and we’d like to keep it that way.”

Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The business can be reached at (269) 782-9600.
