It is difficult to put a price tag on the feeling of being secure.

However, a nearly $2,500 grant will allow Milton Township officials to alleviate any concerns they might have had over the security of township hall.

Pam Baker, a risk control representative from the Michigan Township Participating Plan, presented Milton Township officials with a grant for $2,393.60 Thursday morning.

Township Supervisor Robert Benjamin said the money would be used to purchase and install additional security cameras outside township hall and to upgrade the video monitoring system there.

“Being in a rural community it allows us to record any incidents that might occur and deter any potential crime against the property,” he said. “We are very thankful that they approved this grant.”

Benjamin gave credit to administrative assistant Cori Buchar for securing the grant, saying Buchar does grant writing work on Fridays in addition to her normal duties.

Township officials moved into the new $1.7 million township hall on Bertrand Street in Niles in October of 2014.

Since then, Benjamin said they have only had one incident when someone attempted to steal a picnic table, but could not haul it away because it was too heavy.

Benjamin said the township partners with Michigan Township Participating Plan to do risk assessment services every couple of years.
