Give the gift of life by donating blood

ST. JOSEPH — As the holiday hustle and bustle winds up, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. So why not take a break and make a lifesaving difference for someone right here in Michigan?

Give the gift of life this holiday season by donating blood with Michigan Blood.

A donation can help save the life of someone like 8-year-old Addison Mayfield, who was born five weeks premature. Shortly after her arrival, she was diagnosed with Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn, or PPHN — a serious and sometimes life-threatening condition.

The newborn girl received two blood transfusions, which helped save her life, and each one was possible because of generous Michigan Blood donors.

Addison’s mother said that she and her family encourage others to donate if and when they can.

“Definitely, without those blood transfusions, Addison wouldn’t be here today,” said Elizabeth Mayfield.

Michigan Blood, along with the Mayfield family, is asking Michigan residents to give from the heart this holiday season by donating blood at a Michigan Blood donor center.

Michigan Blood is giving a $10 Kohl’s gift card to anyone who attempts to donate while supplies last.

As a thank you for donating, Michigan Blood is giving a $10 Kohl’s gift card to Locally, blood drives will be held at from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23 and Wednesday, Dec. 30 at St. Joseph Donor Center, which is located at 2710 Cleveland Ave., in St. Joseph.
