I&M line improvement route chosen

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), will upgrade nearly 26 miles of existing transmission lines within the current utility corridor in Cass and St. Joseph counties.

The final route — which will use the utility’s existing right-of-way — was established following a comprehensive routing study that included public and landowner input.

The line route starts on the west at the Kenzie Creek Substation, located east of Thompson Road and White Street in Niles, travels east through Cassopolis, then south of M 60 to the Corey Substation in Three Rivers. Maintaining the existing single corridor with distribution underbuilt on transmission facilities will lessen impact to landowners. The line will be built within a 100-foot wide right-of-way to provide access to safely construct, operate and maintain the line.
