An open house for youth interested in exploring careers in law enforcement will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 96, which is located at 2665 Niles Ave., in St. Joseph.

The program, entitled “Explorer Post 602,” is hosted by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Organizers say Explorer Post 602 is designed to cultivate leadership potential and to discover and develop career paths in youth ages 14 to 20.

Explorer Post 602 is accepting new applicants for the 2015-16 year. The group holds training that covers various law enforcement topics each month, while providing opportunities for post members to serve at a wide variety of public events through the year.

Anyone interested in more information or applying are invited to the open house where members of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Explorer Post 602 will be on hand to answer questions.

The open house will include an awards ceremony during which outstanding Explorer Post 602 members will be recognized for their achievements throughout the past year.

For an application or more addition information, email Lt. Steven Campbell at scampbel@berriencounty.org.
