Niles man to play in LMC recital

BENTON TOWNSHIP — The Lake Michigan College Music Department recently announced upcoming student music performances. Attendees will enjoy instrumental music performances in a variety of musical genres. The first performance is the fall student recital, which will be held at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1 in the dance/drama room (F117) in The Mendel Center.

Students performing include guitarists Brandon Garrett of Niles and Charlie Esparza of Chicago; clarinetist Heather Passi of Cassopolis; pianists Luke and Lane Alsup of Coloma and Jonathan Rueb of Stevensville; flutist Kaylee Dutkiewicz of Coloma; and percussionist David Lowe of Benton Harbor.

Faculty presenting students at the recital are Christina Gibson, Dr. Robert Lunn, Marc Churchill, Jason Gresl, and Laryne Williford. Anthony Beer will provide piano accompaniment.

The student recital is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The second performance is the Rock/Pop Music Ensemble and Jazz Band concert, to be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 in the Hanson Theatre of The Mendel Center.

Under the direction of John T. Owens, the Rock/Pop Ensemble will perform original music as well as popular songs by the Foo Fighters, Santana, Cream, and more. The Jazz Band will feature Malaga by Bill Holman, Superbone Meets Badman by Jay Chattaway, Boogie Stop Shuffle by Charles Mingus, and Diggin’ on James Brown by Tower of Power, among others.

Tickets for the Rock/Pop and Jazz concert are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $4 for groups of 20 or more. Admission is free for current LMC students with a college ID.
