BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Buchanan Bucks will face Battle Creek Harper Creek in the Class B Regional Semifinals at 7 p.m. today at Hopkins.

The Bucks (47-5) advanced to the regional after defeating Lakeshore for the district title Thursday night.

In the other half of the bracket at Hopkins, Wolverine Conference foes Paw Paw and South Haven will square off at 5 p.m. for a spot in Thursday’s championship match.

Buchanan jumped on Lakeshore early in the first set, 10-3, causing the Lancers to take a timeout.  The Lancers were unable to find their rhythm in time and Buchanan rolled to a 25-10 victory.

The second s was a battle from the first point to the final point.

Buchanan and Lakeshore traded points early in the match, Lakeshore led 5-4, 6-5 and 7-6 before Buchanan claimed its first lead 8-7. The two teams found themselves tied at 13-13 when Lakeshore started to pull away.

After Buchanan came back to tie the match at 20-20, Lakeshore found a new gear and finished strong to tie the match at one set a piece, winning 25-22.

Buchanan jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never let up. Lakeshore put together a couple runs, but were unable to stop the Bucks, who won the third match, 25-14 to take a 2-1 lead.

The fourth and final set was competitive early, with Lakeshore fighting for its season. The Lancers held a 6-5 lead, but it would be their last lead of the season. Buchanan reeled off a six-point streak late and won 25-14 to claim the district championship.

“This was one of our goals,” Buchanan coach Lisa Holak, a Lakeshore graduate, said. “We are definitely excited. We’ve worked really hard, but now its on to the next match.”
