James Ray Snyder, age 82, of Dowagiac, died peacefully, Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, in The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac.

He was born Feb. 5, 1933, in South Bend, Indiana, the youngest of three children, to Howard and Leora (Eggleston) Snyder. He married Geraldine Stephenson July 23, 1953 in Dowagiac, Michigan. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents; one daughter, Tara Lynn High; and one brother, Don Snyder.

Jim was an avid reader. He loved to crochet. Jim spent his time with crossword and sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. His favorite teams were Notre Dame and Detroit Lions.

James will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Jeanne and Neil Carter of Stevensville, Michigan; his son and daughter in law, Jeff and Mary Snyder of White Pigeon; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Toney of Edwardsburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will observe a private remembrance. Mr. Snyder’s remains will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Geraldine, in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis.

The family prefers contributions be made in James’ memory to the American Cancer Society, Southwest Michigan Office, 1400 West Milham Street, Portage, Michigan 49024.
