VICKSBURG — Niles advanced to the Division 2 District final with a 1-0 victory over Sturgis in double overtime at Vicksburg High School Thursday night.

The Vikings will face Mattawan, which defeated Edwardsburg 5-0 in the other semifinal.

The championship match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Dylan Fillwock scored a goal in the 84th minute off an assist from Ben Florkowski.

The Vikings then made that stand up over the next 16-plus minutes of the two 10-minute overtimes.

Niles outshot Sturgis 16-8 with Tre Scott making eight saves.

The Vikings, who lost to Mattawan 7-1 earlier this year, will be looking for the second district championship in school history when it faces the Wildcats in the title game.

Niles’ only district crown came in 2006 when now head coach Danny Rodts was a player for the Vikings.

Mattawan scored four first half goals en route to an easy victory over Edwardsburg.

The Eddies were outshot by the Wildcats, who have lost in the last two district championship games in shootouts, 18-2.

Teige Brandt had 12 saves for Edwardsburg.
