Below is a press release issued by the Michigan State Police:

The Michigan State Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, and Niles Police Department have been investigating multiple armed Robberies in Niles Township, Howard/Milton Township and Niles City since Sept. 29. A task force of officers was formed to watch multiple party stores and gas stations in the Niles area at night. During this time there were three additional armed robberies in Berrien Springs. Information was obtained on a possible suspect vehicle involved in an armed robbery attempt on Oct. 19 in Berrien Springs.

This evening (Tuesday) officers were conducting surveillance on numerous locations when detectives from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department observed the possible suspect vehicle drive near Sunrise Liquor’s on Huntley Road in Howard Township. Moments later the suspect was observed running around to the front of the store and entering. As the suspect exited the store he was confronted by officers from the Cass County Sherriff’s Department and Michigan State Police. The suspect then fled eastward toward M-60 where he was taken into custody in the westbound lanes with the assistance of the Niles City Police Department. Shortly after, the suspect vehicle was stopped near Huntley and Yankee Street where a female accomplice was taken into custody.
