Senior center lists October programs

The following events and activities are planned to take place at the Buchanan Area Senior Center, which is located at 810 Rynearson St., in Buchanan.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Flu shots

Wednesday, Oct. 21, noon to 2 p.m.

Lakeland HealthCare will be offering flu shots at the Buchanan Area Senior Center from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. If people have Medicaid, Medicare B, or a Medicare Advantage plan, the shots will be covered. Bring the card. For all others, the cost is $30. Leaders ask that those interested in attending RSVP.

 

Card games

The Buchanan Area Senior Center offers several card games throughout the week and everyone is welcome to join in. Card games include euchre, pinochle, hand and foot, Michigan rummy and cribbage.

• Euchre is played on Mondays at 1 p.m. In addition, area senior centers have organized a Traveling Euchre Tournament, playing at a different center on the third Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet and play cards with other seniors. Light refreshments and prizes are provided by the hosting location.

• Pinochle is played on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Wednesday nights at 6 p.m.

• Hand and foot cards are on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., and cribbage is on Thursdays at 1 p.m.

• Michigan Rummy is on the second and fourth Fridays at 1 p.m.

 

Friday movie matinee: ‘Woman in Gold’

Friday, Oct. 23, 1:15 p.m.

Enjoy popcorn, a beverage, and the movie “Woman in Gold,” starring Helen Mirren. The movie follows Maria, an elderly Jewish woman, as she attempts to reclaim family possessions that were seized by the Nazis. Among them is a famous portrait of her beloved Aunt Adele: Gustave Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.” With the help of young lawyer Randy Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks upon a lengthy legal battle to recover this painting and several others, but it will not be easy, for Austria considers them national treasures.

 

Friends Band

Sunday, Oct. 25, 2 to 4 p.m.

Enjoy a performance by Friends Band at the Buchanan Area Senior Center from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. Terry, Budd, Justin, and Randy will perform favorites for the audience’s dancing and listening pleasure. Snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring a dish to share. The performance is free but donations are always welcome.
