Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Erik Walker

Erik Walker is a junior on the Dowagiac football team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

EW: Being moved up as a sophomore to varsity.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

EW: Missing a wide open catch on the first drive of my varsity career.

What has been a hardship in your life?

EW: Getting separated from my older brothers at a young age.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

EW: One of my heroes is brother Austin. He’s taught me about hard work and dedication.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

EW: The beginning of the game. It usually takes a couple hits to get the butterflies out of my stomach.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

EW: Last year during baseball season they hit a line drive to me and I missed the catch. Then I picked the bal up and attempted ot throw it to the infield. The ball ended up in centerfield.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

EW: I rarely work out alone. I usually have a couple of teammates come along with me.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

EW: I don’t know, probably soccer.

Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?

EW: My biggest fans are my parents. My dad hasn’t missed a game yet.

How would you give away $50,000?

EW: I would give it to our athletic director to by alternate grey and orange jerseys and a locker room at the field.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

EW: Be working at Laura’s Little Burger Joint in Decatur.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

EW: Remembering who to block.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

EW: Block in the back call if the defender turns to his back.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

EW: Right before you block them, “you are one of the best running backs we played all year.”

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

EW: Go against varsity when I was on JV.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

EW: Braxton Miller’s spin move.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

EW: Chilling with friends.
