A pair of Niles siblings, Sage and Chance Smith, have purchased the former Riverfront Café.

The sale of the building was finalized Thursday.

The Smiths are looking at opening the restaurant in the spring of 2016. They originally had hoped to purchase the building in January and open last spring.

They are currently working on upgrading kitchen equipment and a new menu.

While Sage and Chance Smith are new to the restaurant business, the kitchen staff will have more than 40 years of experience.

“Honestly, it wasn’t something we necessarily planned, it really just kind of all fell together,” Chance Smith said. “We have always thought [the previous owners] did a great job renovating the property and the potential is definitely there. It just seems like it has changed hands too often and was never given the time to develop.

“Our goal isn’t necessarily to compete, but to complement the other downtown restaurants. We feel by offering people even more variety we can draw in more customers and maybe more people will choose to dine locally.”

A lot of details have yet to be worked out, but the name will definitely be changed, while the décor will remain virtually the same.

The restaurant, which will sell liquor, will feature a menu that is healthy with fresh ingredients, many of which will be bought locally.
