Bobcats lose game, quarterback

The Brandywine Bobcats lost more than just a BCS Athletic Conference football game Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats were edged by visiting Parchment 22-18 in a game that was postponed Friday night due to weather.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Brandywine quarterback Vinny Peel suffered a neck injury.
According to Brandywine coach Mike Nate, X-rays showed no break but an MRI revealed a pair of bulging discs.
“He is out indefinitely,” Nate said Sunday morning. “We don’t know if he will be able to play again this year or not. He is going to see a specialist on Monday.”
The Bobcats rallied from a 16-12 deficit following the injury to Peel as sophomore back-up quarterback Corbin Eckenberger drove the team down the field and score the go-ahead touchdown with 4:35 to play in the game on a 26-yard run by Jeshua Wiese.
But the Panthers would not be denied and took the ensuring kickoff, and after a five-yard false start penalty, marched 70 yards to score the game-winning touchdown with 1:27 remaining on a Donavan Hodgson 1-yard run. It was Hodgson’s third score of the day.
“We played pretty good,” Nate said. “They are a good football team. The are Class B and we went toe-to-toe with them.”
Wiese finished the day with 86 yards on 18 carries. His first touchdown, a 2-yard run, opening the scoring for the Bobcats.
Also scoring for Brandywine was Brandon Hatch on a 3-yard run in the second quarter as the Bobcats took at 12-8 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Hodgson finished with 154 yards on 25 carries.
“This is not the end of the world,” Nate said. “We just need to regroup and get a win this week.”
Brandywine will host Comstock at 7 p.m. Friday night.
