BUCHANAN — A Niles man died after his vehicle struck a tree off of Red Bud Trail in Buchanan Wednesday afternoon.

Jeffrey Monroe, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police Niles Post.

The accident occurred on Red Bud Trail near Miller Road at 5:10 p.m.

Police said Monroe was traveling north on Red Bud Trail at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

MSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Bertrand and Buchanan Township Fire Departments, Buchanan Police, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and the Berrien County Medical Examiner’s Office.
