A severe thunderstorm left several people without power in Berrien County and caused several downed tree limbs, including one that closed a road in Bertrand Township Monday morning.

According to the Berrien County Road Commission, strong winds caused several large tree branches to fall across Red Bud Trail just south of the Buffalo Road intersection in Bertrand Township around 9 a.m.

A passerby originally reported that the tree fell on a vehicle, but a road commission worker at the scene said the tree did not make contact with the vehicle. Instead, the motorist attempted to drive around the tree branches and got stuck on the shoulder of the road, near the fallen limbs.

The storm also left about 4,000 people in Berrien County without power Monday morning, according to AEP Indiana/Michigan Power.
