BUCHANAN — The Buchanan Garden Club is sponsoring a Blue Star Memorial Marker, which will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, at the Buchanan Garden Club Gazebo Garden at 107 W. Front St., Buchanan.

The public is invited. Blue Star Memorials honor the service and sacrifice of all veterans, past, present and future. Organizers hope that past, present — and future — members of the United States Armed Services will be present for the dedication, along with members of the community.

Robert Feldman, chairman of the Blue Star Committee for the club, pointed out that on Tuesday, June 23, garden club members gathered to make final preparations at the Gazebo Garden.

A large part of the Gazebo Garden has been set aside to accommodate the memorial, which includes three large boulders.

Last fall, garden club members, led by club president Liz Miller, decided to order the marker, a 12-inch by 20-inch plaque which has be mounted on a large boulder in the Gazebo Garden.

Buchanan’s American Legion Ralph Rumbaugh Post 51 has been partnering with the club in planning the memorial and preparing for the dedication ceremony.

Others involved include Bonnie Shaw, landscape designer; Southeast Michigan Landfill Authority; City of Buchanan; Buchanan Floral; Varner’s Nursery; and Vite’s Greenhouse
