What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

The Niles District Library will offer the following free events and activities this week, and a library card is not needed to participate in any program.

Tuesday, April 21

• 10 a.m. — The Connection (Emergency Shelter Services)

Representatives will be at Niles District Library on the second and third Tuesdays of every month. For questions or information, contact Lashonda at (269) 277-5055

• 4:30 p.m. — NDL Board Meeting

 

Wednesday, April 22

• 10 a.m. — Special Edition

Red Cross’s Team Firestopper help participants identify home hazards, how to respond to them, create an escape plan, and correctly use fire safety equipment.

• Multiple times — Story time day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., Storytime at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Squigglers (3-5 years) at 11 a.m.

• 5 p.m. — Securing Change: Budgeting

MSU extension educators will be here to show people how to best spend their money.

• 6 p.m. — Securing Change: Identity Theft

MSU extension educators will be teach people how to protect themselves from identity theft.

 

Thursday, April 23

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1 p.m. — American Mahjong

• 4 p.m. — Teen Book Club: Manga Shakespeare: Midsummer Nights Dream

This book club for teens ages 13-19 meets on the fourth Thursday of every month. Books are available at the Youth Services desk.

• 4 p.m. — Tween Book Club: Moonshot

This book club for youth ages 8-12 meets on the second and fourth Thursday of every month. Books are available at the Youth Services desk.

• 5 p.m. — Teen Activities Council (TAC) Meeting

• 6 p.m. — Building Self Empowerment Workshop part two

Information, tips, tools and techniques to help guide people to live life authentically, confidently and joyfully. The workshop is interactive.

 

Friday, April 24

• 1 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Everyone is invited to bring yarn or a sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while chatting and working. All skill levels are welcome.

 

Saturday, April 25

• 10:30 a.m. — Career Fair for Youth

Children and teens can come talk to members of the community about their jobs. There will be members from a plethora of different careers to talk about their jobs. College representatives will also be on hand for anyone who wants information.

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Usborne Book Fair

• 3 p.m. — Celebration of Niles in art featuring the artwork of Janet Seaman

Join the library as they celebrate the art of Niles’ Janet Seaman, well-known as the artist who painted the Niles history mural at the YMCA. She passed away on in December and her family will be here with her artwork to showcase and celebrate the talent of this amazing woman.
