Road commission imposes weight restrictions

The Cass County Road Commission has been carefully reviewing weather patterns in Cass County since the beginning of the new year. As spring approaches the enforcement of seasonal weight restrictions is necessary. Therefore, the restrictions are in full force as of March 10, 2015 on all non-class “A” county roads.

The “Frost Laws” were enacted to help minimize the impact of heavy trucks on Michigan’s roads during the spring cycle of freezing and thawing. Seasonal restrictions require an overall weight reduction of 35 percent of the normal legal load at a speed of 35 mph.

Agricultural entities who are exempt may contact the road commission office at 269-445-8611 to obtain a special permit.

Weather determines the amount of time these restrictions will be in effect and could potentially be enforced through mid-April. Updates will be made each Monday with the most up-to-date information. For updates, maps and permit forms please check the road commission website at www.casscoroad.com.
