In an effort to increase awareness about the three aspects of health — social, mental and physical — a Niles New Tech class will hold a health fair on Friday, May 15 at Niles High School.

Approximately 120 sophomore learners in the New Tech class HealthWealth — a combination of health and marketing — are in the process of selling booth space to area health-related businesses.

Bill Prenkert, who teaches the class with Jami Foster, said the goal is to bring in between 35 and 50 business partners.

“The more we can get the better,” Prenkert said. “We are looking for partners that would like to come and offer their services or products — whatever it might be — to get more people to improve their health socially, mentally and physically.”

New Tech learner Nola Wallace said the health fair would benefit businesses in several ways.

“We are expecting a lot of people to come, which means businesses will have a chance to bring in more business,” she said. “It will also be a good time for businesses to pitch to all different age groups.”

People of all ages are invited to attend and take advantage of the resources provided by businesses and students.

“We will cover a lot of different topics with all of the booths, so people can come in and learn about things they might not have known about,” said learner Maddie Pfifer. “It is a great way to promote health in the community by targeting a bigger audience.”

The name and logo for event, New Tech Health Check, were created by students.

Booths will be given on a first come first served basis. Each four-foot booth costs $50 and each eight-foot booth costs $70. Fees will go toward the cost of advertising the health fair and for food and beverages at the event.

To sign up for booth space, or for more information, contact Prenkert or Foster by email at nnthealthfair@nilesnewtech.org or phone at (269) 683-6031.

The Niles-Buchanan YMCA and Niles Elks Lodge are the main sponsors of the health fair.
