Bronson will be the team to beat Saturday when the BCS Athletic Conference hosts its inaugural wrestling tournament at Brandywine High School.

Buchanan and the host Bobcats will need some help if they are going to knock off the Vikings.

“In order to win the conference tournament Saturday we need upsets obviously,” Brandywine coach Rex Pomranka said. “None of our kids will be seeded first, but we have plenty that can win redemption matches if the opportunity presents itself. It’s a battle of who wants it more and if our kids don’t want it then they won’t get it.”

Bucks’ coach Frank Mucha agrees.

“It will take a lot of help from the league to knock off Bronson and we will have to have the best days of our careers,” he said.

Both Brandywine and Buchanan have several outstanding wrestlers who are looking to claim individual titles Saturday.

The Bobcats will be led into action by Michael Kachur (23-7) at 103-pounds, Jesse Lochmondy (25-8) at 130, Sam Burge (20-13) at 152 and Charlie Rodriguez (28-4) at 189.

The Bucks top challengers for titles are Matt Strozewski (31-7) at 119, Adam Eger (28-10) at 125, Wes Springer-Grounds (22-1) at 189 and Eddie Washington (22-11) at 215.

Buchanan lost just one match in BCS action and that was to Bronson.

Brandywine finished in the middle of the standings, but is hoping to call upon past experience to get the job done.

“In 2003, we finished in the middle of then pack of the Lakeland Conference and won the individual conference tournament,” Pomranka said. “Anything is possible.”

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Admission is $5 per person.
