The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month — a time when the community is asked to salute the work of school board members and celebrate public education. In Brandywine, school board members must develop policies and make difficult decisions on complex educational and social issues impacting the entire community. They bear responsibility for budgets that impact students and employees. They are citizens whose decisions affect the district’s children — what they learn, who will teach them and what kinds of facilities house their classrooms.

The community is invited to a reception to honor the Brandywine School Board Members. The reception will be at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, just prior to the beginning of the regularly scheduled board meeting, in the Brandywine Middle/Senior High School, Carlson Lecture Hall, 1700 Bell Rd., Niles.

Members of the Board are (front row left to right) Jerry Tibbs, trustee; Ralph Skinner, trustee; Jason Spitler, trustee; (back row left to right) Dennis Hinsey, vice president; Dennis Cooper, treasurer; Robb DeJonge, secretary; Janis Exner, president.
