The offensive woes of the Dowagiac girls basketball team continued as the Chieftains dropped a 42-32 Wolverine Conference non-divisional contest to visiting Allegan Tuesday night.

But despite the struggles, Dowagiac coach Floyd Foston is pleased with the overall effort of his squad and hopes to build on that in the coming weeks.

“I thought it was a great effort, we just couldn’t make the shots when we needed them,” Foston said. “We ran our offense, we did some good things off of our pressure. A lot of good things happened. We just need to get to the point that when we need a basket we have find somebody to come up with one.”

Dowagiac trailed 16-10 after one and 25-20 at halftime.

The Tigers stretched their advance to 14 points in the second half before the Chieftains (2-6) whittled it down to six points, 34-28.

But without a go-to scorer in the final four minutes of the contest, Dowagiac was unable to get any closer.

Karlie Wells had 12 points to lead Allegan and all scorers. C.C. Cervin added 11 points.

Dowagiac was led by Taylor Hulett and Jenesis Gree, both of whom scored 12 points.
