Teams headed back to work following break

After taking a break for the Christmas holiday, area sports teams are heading back into action this week.

The Brandywine boys basketball team competed in the opening round of the White Pigeon Holiday Classic Monday (see www.leaderpub.com for results) and will play again tonight in either the championship or consolation game.

Buchanan also heads back to the court tonight as the Bucks host former Lakeland Conference foe Coloma in a non-league boys basketball game at 7 p.m.

In girls basketball, undefeated Brandywine will play in the Lou Harvey Classic at Benton Harbor High School Saturday.

The Bobcats will take on Class A Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills at 4:30 p.m., while the host Tigers will face South Bend Washington at 7:30 p.m.

Also on Saturday, Niles will travel to Three Rivers for a 7 p.m. non-league game.

Brandywine will compete in the Hillsdale Invitational wrestling tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Niles will send its wrestling team to the Detroit Catholic Central Invitational.

Also competing will be Clarkston, Lowell, Grandville, Allegan, Fowlerville, Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Hudson, Lincoln Park, Livonia Franklin, Dakota, Oxford, Portage Central, Tecumseh, Toledo Catholic Central, Warren Lincoln, Woodhaven and Brighton.

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
