In its most recent financial audit, performed for the 2013-14 school year by Maner Costerisan, an independent auditing firm, Dowagiac Union Schools received the highest level of assurance they can provide, known as an unmodified opinion.

Maner Costerisan reviewed Dowagiac’s financial statements pertaining to major funds and remaining funds.

“An outstanding financial audit for Dowagiac signifies that we as a district are managing our finances in a transparent and responsible manner,” said Superintendent
Paul Hartsig.

For schools that receive this classification, it typically means that internal costs are controlled.

“We are very proud to have this distinction,” Hartsig said. “We strive to achieve excellence in the management of our schools, and an unmodified opinion is an indicator of success.”

The unmodified audit tells taxpayers that they can be confident the finances of their schools are well-managed. Taxpayers can also know that when it comes to Dowagiac Union Schools, they are getting a great return on their investment,.
