South Haven rolls to 45-22 win over Chieftains

The offensive woes of the Dowagiac girls basketball team continued Thursday night.
The Chieftains had just nine baskets and were 2-of-13 from the free throw line in a 45-22 Wolverine West Division loss to visiting South Haven.
The loss dropped Dowagiac to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in division play.
“I told them Tuesday that I thought that they played hard and they played hard again tonight,” Dowagiac coach Floyd Foston said. “But it is the little things that we are missing out on. And that is defense, rebounding and passing. I don’t know why it is so hard to get boxing out, not just with this team, but girls and guys in general. We are not big, we are not athletic, so we have to play smarter in all aspects of the game.”
South Haven had nine offensive rebounds in the first half and scored on six of those extra possessions in building up a 20-4 halftime advantage.
The Chieftains played better the final 16 minutes of the contest, but were still outscored 25-18.
Bobbie Goodwin led the Rams and all scorers with 17 points. Alaina Johnson added 13.
Dowagiac was led by Jenesis Green’s six points. Mara Nelson had five and Asyria Geegan four.
Dowagiac hits the road for the first time this season as it travels to Niles for a non-conference game Tuesday night.
