An 84-year-old Dowagiac woman was rushed to the hospital after being extracted from her vehicle Wednesday evening, following a head-on crash on M-51, according to officials with the Cass County Sheriff’s office.

According to police, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m., near Pennsylvania Street in Pokagon Township. Elizabeth Slabaugh was traveling northbound down the highway along with her 14-year-old granddaughter Megan when a vehicle operated by Sally Lundy, 64, turned in front of her, causing the collision.

Slabaugh was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment. Her granddaughter was treated and released on scene; Lundy and her 3-year-old granddaughter were also treated and released.

Seatbelts were used by all parties involved, and alcohol does not appear to a cause.

Assisting deputies at the scene were Pokagon Township first responders and SMACAS ambulance.
